Method #1. Using Disk Utility
Before we begin, it is critical to recognise that removing a partition will delete its contents. Making a backup of your Mac’s data is the best way to ensure you don’t lose any images or documents.
- Navigate to Disk Utility in Launchpad.
- On the left sidebar, select the partition you want to delete.
- In the pie chart, make sure the partition you want to delete is chosen. Select the minus (-) sign. The pie chart will be updated to reflect your intention to delete the specified partition.
- Click the Apply button.
- A popup window with the statement “This partition will be removed” will appear. Click Partition to confirm, and then let your Mac do its thing.
- Click the Done button.
Method #2. Using Terminal to delete the Mac partition on Mac
- Go to Launchpad Terminal.
- Enter the command “diskutil list” to display your HDD or SSD’s partitions and volumes.
- Enter the command “diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ drive /dev/disk0s3”, with the correct identifier in place of “disk0s3” to delete the partition. So, you may need to use “disk0s2”, for instance.
